Pat wheeler creates a texturally rich surface using wall compound on board, applied with metal spatulas. As she builds layers, she embeds fabric, scrapes, stencils and cuts into the paintings. Using the concept of palimset, where remnants of earlier, imperfectly erased marks & language are revealed, she explores the language of texture, color and surface to create rich, abstract paintings with references to place or recollection. She stains with tea or acrylic paint to add interest and seals the final layers with cold wax.
